About Ned Stratton

I grew up in the North Seattle (Edmonds – Lynnwood ) area. I went to a few different colleges and universities. Receiving an associate’s degree from a small college in Idaho (political science emphasis), an engineering degree from Utah State University, and a business administration degree from USU.

Between my bachelor’s degrees and law school I started a few different businesses with varying degrees of success. After a 4 years of very long hours trying to keep my small business going and trying to meet the demands of more than 20 employees and subcontractors I turned my business over to one of my employees and friends and decided to try my hand at real estate. I was a successful real estate agent for over 4 years and currently have a Washington State Brokers License.

Although it took me two successful careers and 3 degrees to get there, my goal had always been to get a law degree. My wife supported me in pursuing my dreams, so we put our home on the market and gave up a successful real estate practice to attend law school. Although I had a strong academic background and did well on the LSAT, my wife and I wanted to attend law school in a small, Family Friendly community. We drove over to the Moscow Idaho/Pullman Washington area and really liked the looks of the town and campus. Rather than spending $1000 in applications to 10 or more law schools I decided to only apply to the University of Idaho, where I received a Juris Doctorate degree.

During Law School I took extra credits in order to finish the three year degree in 2 ½ years. Even with the extra credits, 3 children and having a forth while in law school, and many responsibilities outside of school I was able to maintain a high GPA and was in the top 10% of my class.

Between my second and third year I worked in Billings Montana as an intern. I was with the largest law firm in the tri-state region. The internship exposed me to many areas of the law, allowing me to take part in the litigation process. The primary focus of the internship was real estate law and preparing complex title opinions for large tracks of land.

I had many options after law school, including an associate position offer in Billings. However I have always considered Washington home and decided to take a temporary position for a large firm in Spokane Washington.
